Influencing the environment within which we live, learn, work and play is a key component in supporting the health and wellbeing of our communities. Making the healthy choice the easy choice has the ability to influence the decisions individual’s make and aims to support living a healthy life and reducing the burden of non-communicable disease. This poster aims to present the key learnings from working with local Government to shape the future of the food and beverage environment within our City. Local Government has an opportunity to support creating healthy eating environments in the places where we live, learn, work and play through their influence over many of the places people congregate everyday. The Christchurch City Council and the Canterbury District Health Board have worked closely together on a range of health related areas. Key to the success of this work has been building on the existing strong partnerships and relationships across the Council, using research and influence and supporting community advocacy. Key Messages: 1. Influencing the environment supports making the healthy choice the easy choice. 2. Advocacy and influence at the local Government level is important for public health outcomes. 3. Food and nutrition environments can be improved.
